P5 & P6 Colour Grid (Creating different tones of colours)

Before you start painting your colour grid, you must remember the colour combinations below.


Primary Colours:

  • Red
  • Blue
  • Yellow
Dark Red <-----(add black)----- Red -----(add white)-----> Pink

 Dark Blue <-----(add black)----- Blue -----(add white)-----> Light Blue

Dark brown <-----(add red)----- Brown -----(add yellow)-----> Light Brown


Secondary Colours:
  • Red + Blue = Purple
  • Blue + Yellow = Green
  • Red + Yellow = Orange
 Dark Purple <-----(add black)----- Purple -----(add white)-----> Light Purple

Dark Green <-----(add blue)----- Green -----(add yellow)-----> Light Green

Dark Orange <-----(add red)----- Orange -----(add yellow)-----> Light Orange

Now, you are ready to paint your colour grid. Let's start!^^ 



Fold the paper in half horizontally.
Draw a line across the folded crease
(use a ruler)

Fold the paper into 3 equal columns
Draw lines along the folded creases
Now you should see 6 large squares

Draw 2 more smaller squares inside each large square

Mix red and yellow together to get orange
Paint the middle layer

Add more yellow to get light orange
Paint the centre

Add more red to get dark orange
Paint the outer layer



Mix blue and yellow together to get green
Paint the middle layer


Add more yellow to get light green
Paint the centre

Add more blue to get dark green
Paint the outer layer

Paint the rest of the squares in a similar pattern

Use a black marker to outline the squares after the paint is dry
Your completed colour grid should look like this
