Total Defence Day Reflection

This well-written reflection was done by one of your friends. I will like to share it with the rest of the class. Happy reading! ^^

" I love the part of the concert when some male teachers were dressed in their army uniforms. I am proud of them because they have to defend the country and teach us at the same time. Even though I am not a soldier, I can contribute to Singapore's defence by being a good and helpful neighbour. I think this is called Social Defence."

Singapore Total Defence Day 2011 Poster

The theme for this year's Total Defence Day is "HOME - Keeping It Together".

This is the official music video from YouTube. Listen to it. This well-loved song is rearranged and sung by 39 Singaporean singers.

Now, let's learn how to complete the Total Defence Day poster.

Materials Needed:

  • Pencil & eraser
  • Drawing Paper
  • Poster Colour
  • Palette
  • Small container (for washing your brushes)
  • Paint Brushes

Refer to the template provided and draw "HOME" in block letters.
Write "Keeping it together" directly below.
Make sure this is done in the middle of the page.

Add more details to your drawing.
For example, hills, tree, kite, clouds and Sun.
Remember to keep the details big because this makes the painting process easier later.

Arrange your painting tools in an orderly manner so that you can focused better
Newspaper on the table

Poster Colours on the left
Palette and small container at the top

Fill the small container and palette with water.
Squeeze the poster colours on the FLAT part of the palette.
We are painting the block letters first.
We are blending Red, Orange and Yellow because they belong to the same colour family.

Wet the brush and mixed the red colour on the palette.
Mixed well.

Paint the bottom one-third of the letter "E" red. Use the sharp tip of the brush.

Wash the brush in the small container

Wet the brush and mixed the orange colour on the palette.
Paint the middle one-third of the letter "E" orange.
Remember to BLEND the orange and red together.

Wash the brush in the small container

Paint the bottom green, middle light green and top yellow.
Remember to BLEND the 3 colours.
Sunlight reaches the top of the tree, therefore yellow is used.

Repeat the same the blending technique on the tree trunk.

Outline the clouds using dark purple.
Paint half of the cloud light purple.
Paint the centre of the cloud white.
Remember to BLEND the 3 colours.

Let's not waste the excess colours on the palette.
We can use the colours on the kite, Sun and path.

Repeat the same the blending technique.

Paint the sky blue.

Paint the windows black.
We always use black colour at the end when painting.
Use a black marker to trace the phrase "Keeping it together".

Squeeze the poster colours on the FLAT part of the palette.
We are painting the hills next.

Paint the bottom green, middle light green and top yellow.
Remember to BLEND the 3 colours.

Mixed the yellow colour on the palette.
Paint the top one-third of the letter "E" yellow.
Remember to BLEND the orange and yellow together.

Repeat the same steps on the other block letters.
Paint the bottom red, middle orange and top yellow.
Remember to BLEND the 3 colours.
For me, "Home" is a place where I feel secured and loved.

How about you? What is the meaning of "Home" to you? Please leave a comment below. ^^
